Advocacy
One of CSA's key aims is to push for an holistic, integrated approach to conservation of the natural and cultural heritage in the context of a 'sustainable Scotland'. To achieve this, CSA promotes the needs of the historic environment in relation to legislative proposals, strategic Government policy and advisory provision, and to a whole host of initiatives brought forward by other bodies. Responding to consultations on a wide range of issues that affect Scotland's archaeological heritage is an important part of this work.

We work with policy makers both within Government and in a range of other organisations, bringing cultural heritage issues to public attention. CSA responds to general and specific concerns on a range of matters raised by our partners in the archaeological community and by members of the public. We help them to take issues forward themselves, and in some cases we add our weight to their arguments.
One of CSA's core activities is to promote communication among groups with an interest in Scotland's archaeological heritage, and those concerned with the environment. We facilitate liaison among the archaeological community -- amateurs and professionals, individuals and organisations -- statutory bodies and the general public. One of the means by which we achieve this is to co-ordinate Scottish Archaeological Link, a body established by CSA which brings together a range of organisations working in archaeology to exchange views and discuss issues of mutual concern. We also promote awareness and responsible stewardship of the nation's archaeological resource, working with a wide range of heritage and environment bodies including Scottish Environment LINK and the Built Environment Forum Scotland.
CSA also provides advice on conservation of the historic environment to individuals and organisations both within and outwith the cultural heritage sector. In addition, CSA is undertaking a series of projects which work towards the goal of an integrated approach to the preservation and management of historical and archaeological resources.
