Office Bearers

CSA's current office bearers are:

President: Dr Stephen Carter

Stephen is a Director of Headland Archaeology, a firm of archaeological consultants and contractors that he co-founded in 1996. His academic background is in physical geography and botany and he specialises in the analysis of archaeological sediments and soils.

Vice-President: Dr Simon Gilmour

Simon was previously curator of oblique aerial photographs at RCAHMS. He has interests in aerial photography and Iron Age Europe, especially the Atlantic West.

Vice-President: Mr Alan Calder

Prior to retirement, Alan was an engineer with GEC/Marconi. Since then he has become actively involved in archaeology through membership of the Edinburgh Archaeological Field Society. He also volunteers with the National Museums of Scotland.

Secretary: Mr Ronan Toolis

Ronan works for AOC Archaeology as a Senior Project Officer and is currently managing a range of archaeological projects. Much of his work has included public outreach.

Director of Summer School: Mr Geoff Waters

Geoff retired from the Telecommunications and Networks Test Division of Agilent Technologies UK Ltd in March 2003. An active amateur archaeologist, Geoff has organised the CSA Summer School for 16 years.

Hon. Editor (Discovery and Excavation in Scotland): Dr Ellen McAdam

Ellen read archaeology at Edinburgh and followed this up with a DPhil at Oxford. She is currently Collections Services Manager with Glasgow Museums and has previously been Hon. Editor of the Institute of Field Archaeologists. Ellen took over editorship from Robin Turner in December 2006.
