Identifying archaeology
If you want to understand more about already known sites or help in identifying unrecorded sites on your land, CSA has produced a series of guides to help you. You can find out more here:
To identify archaeological sites it is recommended that you get an archaeological audit of your land (see CSA Farming Advice Note 2). The cost of this may be funded by SEERAD (contact your local SEERAD Area office for details).
You can also get information online at www.pastmap.org.uk. The data held here is useful for identifying sites that need to be protected for Single Farm Payments (see CSA Farming Advice Note 1).
For more detailed information you may need a full archaeological survey of your land. This will not normally be funded by central government, though you can now get archaeological surveys funded by the Forestry Commission in advance of new woodland planting.
