The archaeological community also includes the specialist and umbrella groups and societies concerned with Scotland's archaeological heritage, and the local groups and societies which provide opportunities at ground level for active involvement and work locally to ensure archaeology is promoted and protected. These groups provide an essential voice for those involved in archaeology in an amateur or voluntary capacity, and those working to represent archaeology in the wider environmental or built heritage sectors.
