Archaeology and the Curriculum for Excellence

CSA has a long standing commitment to encourage the use of archaeology as a resource for learning in schools. CSA’s latest efforts in this area have been directed towards influencing the new Curriculum for Excellence, and to this end CSA have produced an advocacy document along with a number of case studies and supporting documents that highlight the ways in which archaeology can deliver the four main principles upon which the Curriculum for Excellence is based:

  • successful learners,
  • confident individuals,
  • responsible citizens and
  • effective contributors.

This documentation has been submitted to LTScotland and SEED staff involved in developing the content of the Curriculum for Excellence, and can be downloaded using the links on the right.

CSA recently met with the Scottish Executive Education Department to outline the many ways in which archaeology provides a range of skills, knowledge and understanding, both within and outside the classroom environment for all ages and abilities. Our next step will be to request a meeting with the Education Committee of the Scottish Parliament to further promote the value of archaeology to the Curriculum for Excellence.
