Education

CSA exists to advance public awareness of Scotland's archaeological heritage. Our educational aim is to encourage understanding of and promote involvement in Scotland's archaeological heritage for all ages and levels of interest. As such, education underpins and forms an integral part of the organisation's activities.

We work with life long learners, young people, heritage educators, the teaching profession and the archaeological community to promote greater use of archaeology as a tool for learning. We maintain links in formal education through representation on various groups, and seek to ensure archaeology is represented in environmental education networks. By incorporating educational objectives within our various projects, we can deliver hands-on opportunities for learning, as well as increasing knowledge through the promotion of good practice and provision of advice and training.

By providing opportunities to learn about the breadth and depth of Scotland's archaeological heritage that has developed over the last 10,000 years, CSA hopes to encourage as wide an audience as possible to engage with the past and understand how this informs the present

Child Protection

All work carried by CSA adheres to our Child Protection Policy (copies of this can be requested from the CSA office). If you are working with children it is vital that you adhere to best practice and in line with current legislation. A short leaflet containing information for those working with children as part of CSA related initiatives such as Scottish Archaeology Month and Adopt-a-Monument is available here.

For more detailed information you can download the full document Child Protection Information for Projects here. Note that this information should not be read in isolation and advice on legislation concerning disclosure checks should be sought from the Central Registered Body in Scotland (CRBS).
