Outreach

Outreach is one of CSA's most popular and successful initiatives. By presenting interactive hands-on workshops at public events such as science festivals and environmental fairs, we promote archaeology to the public as fun for all ages.

CSA currently has two core workshops - ancient technology and a simulated excavation. We are continually looking to create new workshops and activities.

In 2006 the Outreach programme included:

  • participation in at least three major public events including the Make It In Scotland Roadshows,
    Edinburgh and Glasgow Melas,
    Museums and Galleries Month,
    a Family Fun Day at Lenzie Moss and Beardmore Park Fun Day;

As part of our outreach work, we make archaeological resources available to other groups; this includes the workshop kits and a teaching collection which we manage for the National Museums of Scotland. The resources are very much in demand from a range of users - countryside ranger services, student teachers, drama specialists, and local and national museums are only some of the groups who have contacted us with requests.

(Please note: Unfortunately, CSA's workshop equipment and artefacts are unavailable as of 1st September 2007. CSA hope to make them available for borrowing by the Spring of 2008.)

CSA's outreach work also includes the biennial Archaeology Fair, and annual Summer School. We welcome enquiries regarding volunteering in our outreach work.
