DIGGING UP THE HIGHLANDS

The Council for Scottish Archaeology (CSA) is bringing the Scottish Archaeology Fair to the historic village of Strathpeffer on Saturday 5th May 2007. Archaeologists from all over Scotland will be dusting down their woolly jumpers and donning their sandals and trowels ready to share their expertise and enthusiasm with the public.

The Fair profiles Scottish archaeology at its best, with over 30 local archaeology and history societies taking part, as well as national groups and organisations. The Vikings invasions of Scotland will be brought to life by The Lochland Vikings who will be portraying all aspects of Viking life including Viking cooking, metalworking and of course their renowned fighting skills. You never know you might get to see a stand off with some fearless Scottish Picts!

Real life archaeologists, like those from The Caithness Archaeological Trust and many other groups will also be on hand to answer all your questions and let you know how you can get involved in reconstructing a Scottish Broch or excavating a medieval Clan castle. You can also bring in any finds you might have gathered to have identified by the specialists.

promises to be a great day out for all the family, and what’s more it’s free. So why not make like Indiana Jones and whip on down to the Strathpeffer Pavilion on Saturday 5th May 2007 from 10-4pm. For more information, visit the CSA website – www.scottisharchaeology.org.uk
