Archaeological Research in Progress conference
CAITHNESS 31st May - 1st June 2008
This year's ARP conference is now over and Archaeology Scotland (the new name for the Council for Scottish Archaeology) would like to thank all those who helped make it such a great sucess. Thanks go, naturally, to our speakers, Richard Bradley, Kenny Brophy, Martin Carruthers, Jon Henderson, Lloyd Laing, Nan Bethune, Brian Wilkinson, Meryl Marshall, Antonia Thomas and John Barber for presenting such interesting papers on their current researches, fieldwork and interpretations of the archaeology of the northeast. We are also indebted to the Nan and George Bethune, Pat Buchannan and Barbara at the Caithness Archaeological Trust, Meg Sinclair at the Dunbeath Heritage Centre and Andy Heald at AOC Archaeology Ltd. for all their help and support in the organisation of this year's conference. We'd like to acknowledge the great hospitality of Malcolm Lord Caithness of Castle Sinclair Girnigoe and Islay Macleod of the Thurmster Estate for opening their homes to us and the Lybster Community Association for the provision of the lecture hall. Last but not least, a big thanks to Ann, Sheena and Lynsey at the Portland Arms Hotel for feeding us all so well throughout the Friday and Saturday of the conference. Lastly thanks to all the delegates who came from all over Britain in record numbers. Thank you!
